There are around 150 children from tribal areas living in this slum. Only 1 child had ever been able to attend school when we visited there in February 2006. Astonished by the deep need, WIN India started a slum school at NTR Nagar with two teachers. There are now 126 children on the school rolls. The children range in age from 3 to 15 years old. All of the children have been provided with uniform, tie, belt, shoes, and study materials. Each day the children are provided with a snack after they have attended school. |

The families with children must pay for a child to receive an education in India. For some this is an impossibility. WIN India has stepped in to assist those with the greatest needs. Therefore we offer education support to: children of village evangelists, children of poor widows, children from a slum, children of leprosy victims, children of sex workers (women trying to escape the slavery of prostitution), other poor and needy children identified by our church pastors. |

Approximately 105 families live in the leprosy colony we have visited, served, and supported several hours drive outside of Hyderabad. A church has been established with a full-time Evangelist (because there is no protestant church building we use the facilities of the Catholic church). We provided a church dinner on the Sunday that we visited and spoke. Money has been given to pay for the electricity to their 115 government built cinder block one room houses. Shoes were purchased for all of the children. On August 19, 2006, a medical eye camp was organized with several doctors volunteering their time and expertise. Twelve patients received cataract operations. 22 patients received glasses. |

A new church building is being constructed in a slum area just out of the town of Hyderabad. Formerly, the church congregation sat on colorful mats placed on the dirt ground. $5,000 helped bring this village evangelist's dream to reality. Support and training continues for five Village Evangelists. The evangelists visit their congregations by bicycle or motorcycle. |

There are about 9000 fallen women in the city of Hyderabad. About 80 percent of these women have HIV/AIDS. To bring hope and a better way of life to these women, two sewing centers have been established. Two groups of 20 women each are attending the training classes. Besides training in tailoring and sewing, the women receive literacy training, and biblical teaching. On successful completion of their training, each lady will receive a sewing machine. This is the main means of making a living and obtaining support to provide school money for their children. On June 24, 2006, a Transformation Retreat was organized at the YMCA, with 150 fallen women attending. 125 women were given Holy Bibles in their local language. |
